Anglesey Hotel - The Bar
Project Type
Interior Design
Date
2020
Location
Alverstoke, Gosport
A much-loved local spot, the bar at The Anglesey Hotel was ready for a fresh chapter after nearly two decades since its last refurbishment. The brief was to create a warm and welcoming space that could cater to everything from casual drinks and sports events to their growing interest for afternoon tea.
The design focused on flexible zoning, from bar seating and counter-height tables to intimate dining areas. Inspiration for the design scheme came from the owner's naval background and the hotel’s coastal location, expressed through a calming palette of off-whites and deep blues. Key architectural features were enhanced with new panelling details, flooring and working with existing fixed elements.
The bar itself was transformed and reimagined as the focal point — opening the area structurally and visually by stripping back and extending the faux ceiling, adding antique metal finishes, and refined joinery details. Thoughtful touches such as traditional hanging hops, refreshed lighting, and nods to local history, helped bring this much-loved venue into a new era.
